Murders on rise in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —The number of murders in Orange County is higher than in the first quarter of the two previous years.

In Orange County, there have been 19 murders between Jan. 1 and March 31. Nearly half remain unsolved. There were only 12 during the first quarter of last year.

Nine of the murders occurred in Orlando city limits. That’s double the number of homicides in the same period in 2012.

The victims include a 21-year-old man killed in a drive-by shooting at an apartment complex and a 31-year-old man shot to death after he and his girlfriend were approached by two men in a parking lot.

In many murder cases, investigators said they’re hampered by a lack of information from witnesses.

Officials said a number of the suspects out there might be caught, if witnesses could provide even a little more information about what they saw at crime scenes.

Anyone with information regarding a homicide case is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
